Lincolnshire resident Toni Slade, nominated SUDEP Action for the Lincs Lotto, following the death of her son Nathan, 26yrs old. Nathan's sudden death devastated their whole community.
"We are seeking to raise funds for SUDEP Action and to help bring awareness of epilepsy and SUDEP - which is very misunderstood and not well known, to the fore". – Toni Slade
Toni is one of 30 people and five health teams in Lincolnshire, all supporting SUDEP Action.
There are at least three epilepsy-related deaths a day in the UK.
50% of these are Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
Research has found that 42% of these epilepsy deaths are potentially avoidable - if the individuals had seen their health professional and had been made aware of potential risks.
So, who are SUDEP Action?
SUDEP Action is the only UK charity specialised in supporting and involving people bereaved by epilepsy. Providing free tools to help keep people with epilepsy safe and actively work with neurologists and researchers who are also leaders in their field.
